The Spirit of Christmas!
Does anyone really know what it is?
Can we even define it or is it just a “feeling”?
What happens if, after you decorate the tree, finish your baking, sing your carols…..
What happens, if after you do ALL of the Christmas things……
You still don’t FEEL the Spirit of Christmas.
How do you capture that Christmas feeling if it doesn’t come naturally?
If the things in your life and mind crowd out this happy feeling?
Until one feels the Spirit of Christmas – there is no Christmas.
All else is outward display – the decorations – the tinsel….the lights….
I have been thinking about all this for several weeks now.
The Spirit of Christmas has nothing to do with concerts, programs, decorations or lights.
Nothing to do with presents, gifts or even giving.
No, I’m fairly certain that Christmas has nothing to do with these things.
It has everything to do with forgiveness.
It is why God sent his Son into the world at this time…..
To forgive us, to forgive me, to forgive you!
God forgave us so we can forgive others…..
We can let go of the pain, regret, grief and hard feelings that weigh us down.
We can choose to love those that hurt us and let go of the pain they have caused us.
With forgiveness - a ripple of love starts surging within our hearts.
Love which rushes from a slight ripple to a huge tsunami
A tsunami that is so powerful that it compels us to love with reckless abandon.
Compels us to love fully, deeply and without limits.
